Alice COLONIEU (1924-2010): - Lot 102
Alice COLONIEU (1924-2010): Important glazed ceramic handle vase with cylindrical body and swollen body with scroll decoration in relief. Signed under the base. Work around 1950 H. 44,5 cm (two tiny chips in the enamel) Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille and then at the professional school of ceramics of Fontcarrade (Ecole de Formation Artistique de Fontcarrade) in Montpellier. Participates in many exhibitions including the Salon des Arts Décoratifs in 1953 and 1954. Presented his creations at the first international festival of ceramics in Cannes in 1955. Worked for great decorators such as Jean Royère, Jules Leleu (elements of decoration of the pool of the liner Pierre Loti in 1952) and Maurice Rinck. In the mid-60s, Alice Colonieu slowed down her production to create only on commission, which made her a sought-after artist. Her pieces are worked with a colombin or a plate in a thick red clay. She superimposes enamels and plays on their transparency. Her pieces emanate strength and power, lightened by the play of enamels.
