Born in Valladolid, Paco Durrio trained at the Ecole des Arts et Métiers in Bilbao, then in the workshop of sculptor Justo de Gandarias in Madrid. He moved to Paris in 1888 and befriended Paul Gauguin and Pablo Picasso. Before devoting himself to the creation of ceramics and jewelry, Paco Durrio produced more academic portraits such as those of painter Pablo Uranga, industrialist Horacio Echevarrieta and sculptor Ernest Meissonier.
